Affirmation: “I am allowed to cry”

I know that crying can be good for me. I give myself permission to let my tears fall.

Crying relieves my stress. My tears help to wash toxins and stress hormones out of my body. I feel cleansed and refreshed.

Crying shows me where I want to make changes in my life. I look for the reasons behind my anger and sadness. I work at becoming more assertive or dealing with rejection. I find more constructive ways to handle situations that disturb me.

Crying gives me an opportunity to see that I have others who care about me. My relationships grow stronger when I allow myself to be vulnerable and accept assistance from others.

Crying reminds me to treat myself gently. My life is precious and my wellbeing is important. I accomplish more when I respect my limits and pay attention to my needs.

Once I find an appropriate time and place, I cry for as long as I need to. Then, I pick myself up and work on finding solutions. Instead of wallowing in my sorrows, I turn my tears into a healing force.

Today, I allow myself to have a good cry if I feel like it. I regard my tears as my friends. When I accept my feelings, I can put them in perspective and move on.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. How do I feel when I see someone cry in public?
  2. Where are some safe spaces where I can cry in my daily life?
  3. What is one thing I can do to comfort myself when I am sad?

Affirmation: “I accept my past and live in the present”

Each day is a wonderful gift. During the next few hours, I have the opportunity to work, laugh, share, and dream. I spend my time trying to make my life special and satisfying. I make a conscious effort to live in the moment so I can be content.

I am thankful for this day and choose to make the most of it.

An important aspect of living bountifully in the present is being able to accept the past. Even though I have sad, scary, and challenging situations in my past, I strive to be at peace with those events.

I realize there is a reason for everything. I feel strong in the present because I reflect on the experiences from my past. Much of who I am today is due to my past.

I avoid letting the imperfections of my before-life negatively affect my life today. Although I realize I am far from invincible, I know I am an empowered human being who can do whatever I put my mind to.

Today, I reflect on all the ways I am living in the present. I have overcome difficult experiences and I avoid letting them be stumbling blocks to me in the present. I vow to live in the here and now.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. What events from my past have I failed to accept?
  2. How do I focus on living in the present?
  3. What steps can I take to ensure that I live my best life?

Affirmation: “Forgiveness restores my peace of mind”

When I forgive others, I also liberate myself from being weighed down by past events. I wipe the slate clean and start anew.

Forgiveness puts me back in control of my life. I focus on my own reactions rather than external events. My resilience increases as I become more skillful at dealing with conflicts and disappointments.

Letting go of resentments reduces my anxiety. I know from experience that I commit many actions for which I need to be pardoned. It is important to teach myself that absolution is possible.

Most of all, I take pleasure in knowing that I promote healing when I make allowances for mistakes and misjudgments.

A tolerant attitude helps me to better understand someone who hurts me. They may be feeling pressured or experiencing great losses.

When I respond with kindness rather than anger, we all have the opportunity to grow.

Absolution becomes easier and more constructive when I accept accountability for my role in any clashes. I am honest with myself about my shortcomings.

Distinguishing between people and their actions helps me to protect my own welfare while turning the other cheek. I understand I can feel affection and concern for others without condoning behavior that contradicts my values.

Forgiveness becomes more automatic as I rejoice in the good feelings it brings.

Today, I throw away grudges from the past. I enjoy the peace of mind that comes with extending forgiveness.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. What are the barriers that make it difficult for me to forgive?
  2. How does forgiveness make me happier?
  3. Is there one person I could choose to forgive today?

Affirmation: “Forgiveness is a gift I give to myself”

While I may have been wronged in the past, I choose to forgive others. Forgiveness is a gift I give myself. By forgiving others, I become free of the past. I am then free to live entirely in the present.

Forgiveness sometimes seems like a gift I am giving to others, but it is really something I do for myself. Holding onto the past creates challenges in the present and future, so I choose to let go of the past and move forward without baggage.

I am grateful for the challenges of my past. These challenges teach valuable lessons that I can use in the present.

By forgiving others, I allow myself to fully engage in the wonderful aspects of my life. I choose to focus on the good parts of my life and to release the past. The past only has the power I choose to give it. I choose to be free of the past.

When I feel that I have been treated poorly, I search for the valuable lesson in that situation. Then I forgive and forget. I am mistreating myself when I hold onto a grudge.

Forgiveness is a way of showing strength and compassion to others and myself.

Today, I give myself a gift by forgiving others for their transgressions against me. I feel light and free as a bird when I practice forgiveness.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. Whom do I need to forgive?
  2. What would I gain by forgiving that person?
  3. Can I let go of my negative feelings about that person?

Here are some of Minipreneur’s favourite picture books this month.

No More Peas by Madeleine Cook & Erika Meza

Written by Madeleine Cook and illustrated by Erika Meza, No More Peas is the perfect picture book for encouraging fussy eaters to try vegetables. This humourous story about a boy called Oliver who rejects vegetables like carrots for being too orange and peas because they roll around the plate is filled with lots of laugh-out-loud moments to keep little ones entertained but also covers a wide variety of colourful vegetables with information about how they grow from seeds into vegetable plants.

By including a rainbow of different vegetables including blue corn and purple broccoli, fussy eaters will be introduced to an exciting world of food that they may have rejected at the dinner table or been unaware of previously. The book also promotes the message that it is important to try new things because you might just discover something you love. This book was one of Minipeneur’s favourites this month.

How to Catch a Rainbow by Naomi Jones & Ana Gomez

Another favourite story this month for Minipreneur was How to Catch a Rainbow by Naomi Jones & Ana Gomez. The book explores colour, creativity, and problem solving as well as encouraging conversation about how rainbows are made. Minipreneur loved to hear about all the different things that represented the colours of the rainbow that the main character Freya collected around her garden.

Freya loves rainbows. She loves their bright colours and their curvy shape. More than anything, she wishes she had one of her very own. One that she can keep forever. So she decides to become a Rainbow Hunter! She searches high and low, but no rainbows are to be found, so she decides to make her own, collecting items in every colour of the rainbow from the garden. But when things don’t go quite to plan, Freya has to use her imagination and creativity to come up with a way to make her wish come true.

I’m The Bus Driver illustrated by David Semple

This fun and immersive book puts the child in charge as they take on the role of a bus driver encouraging them to follow instructions and solve problems. Minipreneur loved taking the driver’s seat and pretending to use the controls.

The narrative is embedded with early learning skills such as recognition of colours, shapes, and numbers. This makes it perfect to share with children as a fun way to practise these key skills while enjoying imaginative play. The story ends with a sense of achievement as the children are delivered to school right on time.

I’m The Tractor Driver illustrated by David Semple

Part of the popular series, this latest book lets the reader imagine themselves as a tractor driver helping out on the farm. Minipreneur loves singing Old Macdonald Had A Farm so this book became a new favourite at storytime.

This book can help children build self-confidence and encourage teamwork, problem-solving and following instructions. The story also is a great way to use imaginative play to practise early learning skills like recognising different numbers, shapes and colours. It’s a fun way to practise these key skills with your child while they pretend to drive the tractor around the farm and help out with various farming jobs. They’ll feel a sense of achievement by the end of the book when all the jobs at the farm are completed.

Affirmation: “Each day, I make strides towards bettering my future and letting go of the past”

I am fully aware that the past is in the past. Therefore, I keep my chin up and move forward with my life without looking back.

I have zero control over events that have already occurred in my life. However, I do have control over my future. Therefore, I assert my authority over my future by making sound decisions that allow me to live well today and in the days to come.

I take responsibility for my actions. Generally, the things I do bring positive experiences into my life. However, from time to time, I do make an unsound decision. When this happens, I have the courage to face the outcome of my actions.

I choose to learn from my difficulties, ensuring that the same mistake is never made twice. This in itself allows me to create a better future!

My possibilities are shining brightly! Rather than dreaming my days away, I make the most of each day by planting small seeds now to reap rewards in the future.

Life is about making the most of what I have now, while still reaching for greater happiness. I allow this understanding to fill me each and every day.

Today, I take an unbiased look at my future. I also make the most of the skills and gifts I have right now.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. Do I structure my goals into small measurable steps?
  2. How can I let go of the past and completely focus on the here-and-now?
  3. How can I ensure that I enjoy a comfortable future?

It’s an entertaining introduction to camouflaged creatures, which children will be able to spot hidden throughout the book (even if Howard can’t!). This is one of Minipreneur’s favourite picture books at the moment.

Series two of the global-hit animation Bluey is set to receive its UK free-to-air premiere on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer on Monday 1 August.

The first series proved a huge hit with UK fans, being streamed more than 97 million times on BBC iPlayer since its launch on iPlayer in April last year.

Widely lauded by parents and press alike for its heartfelt and funny portrayal of family life and celebration of play, the show follows Bluey, a 6-year-old Blue Heeler dog, who loves to play and turns everyday family life into extraordinary adventures that unfold in unpredictable and hilarious ways, bringing her family – including younger sister Bingo and parents Bandit and Chilli – as well as friends and community into her world of fun and discovery.

Bluey has won the hearts of kids and parents around the world since it first launched in Australia in October 2018 and has quickly become a global hit, becoming hugely popular with audiences in the UK – it was also the highest rating programme on CBeebies for Q1 2022.

The secret of its success is its appeal to children and adults alike. Stuart Heritage called it “the best thing on TV” in The Guardian, Rolling Stone listed it as one of the Best Sitcoms of All Time, Vulture called it the best kids’ show of our time and The New York Times said it was the kids’ show every parent can love.

It’s further cemented itself as a global cult hit with kids and parents and the third series (currently airing in Australia) has featured cameos from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Eva Mendes and Natalie Portman. It’s broken viewing records and spawned a number one album in Australia whilst also being named the #1 new toy property here in the UK last year.

Affirmation: “My integrity is tested when my back is against the wall”

Difficult situations are usually uncomfortable to be in, but I rise to the occasion each time. My integrity is tested when my back is against the wall and I always come out victorious.

Challenges have the potential to cause me to question my core values. Sometimes the easy way out is attractive, but I stay away from it when it involves going against my beliefs.

Whenever I go through a financial struggle, I double down on my resolve to get through it honestly. I believe in making an honorable living in a way that allows me to maintain my key principles. My uprightness is my strong suit.

It allows me to face temptation and turn away from it in the same breath. I rely on creative solutions instead of shortcuts.

In personal relationships, I am sometimes asked to choose sides. Although I love all my friends and family members, I always stand on the side of the truth. When I focus on seeking it, it is easy for me to live it.

Anyone who asks me to betray my beliefs belongs on the outside of my inner circle. I prefer a free conscience over people who ask me to be dishonest.

Today, it is a good feeling to be sure of myself and what I believe in. It provides a foundation on which to make important life decisions. I am able to maintain integrity because my life is based on sound principles.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. What are the main principles that I commit to living by?
  2. What is my initial reaction when I feel like my values are being attacked?
  3. How do I ensure that I remain true to myself even when challenged by tough situations?

Affirmation: “My devotion to my loved ones is obvious”

The affection I feel for my loved ones lies deep within me. I think about the meaning I attach to each family member and wonder how I could ever hold so much love for someone.

Much of my life is consumed with how I can do what is good and right for my loved ones. Almost everything I do is in some way related to those I care deeply about.

I love my closest friends as I do my family members. My dearest friends are always there for me, just as I am for them. Being available to help my friends is a special treasure. Knowing that I can aid or assist my friends in some way brings me feelings of joy and contentment. They know they can count on me.

I see what I do for my loved ones as a privilege. I take personal pride in the fact that I am blessed enough to have people who are as devoted to me as I am to them.

My devotion is powerful and palpable.

Today, I easily demonstrate my devotion to my loved ones. Joyfully, my loved ones – and the world around us – reciprocate my love and passion with love of their own.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. Do I feel devoted to my loved ones?
  2. How do I show that I dearly love each of the people important to me?
  3. If I were to take some extra time to show each of my loved ones how important they are to me, how would I do it?

Here are some of Minipreneur’s favourite picture books this month.

Speak Out, Leonard! by Jessie James & Tamara Anegon

As part of DK’s increasing range of picture books, this quirky illustrated book for 3 to 5 year olds tells a story about a shy shrew who struggles to be heard as he searches for the courage to speak up. The book features a strong message about speaking up and the importance of standing up for yourself and to bullies. You may recall that we reviewed the first title in the series, Look Out, Leonard!, which has gone on to receive favourable reviews and has sold over 400 copies in the UK since its release.

The leading character Leonard is a bit of a clueless and softly spoken shrew who is shy and finds it hard to make his voice heard. This sometimes means he misses out on some of the exciting experiences life has to offer like tasty seed snacks, playing games with the other children at break time, or being the first in the class to answer a question he knows he has the answer
to. But when Leonard sees a friend being picked on by a bully in the playground, he needs to find the courage to speak out and save the day.

Speak Out, Leonard! aims to encourage self-awareness, confidence, compassion, and empathy in little ones and to help them understand the importance of using your voice to speak out against injustice. This makes it an invaluable addition to your child’s bookshelves and Minipreneur enjoyed the positive message about standing up for yourself and others in the face of bullies.

Speak Out, Leonard! by Jessie James & Tamara Anegon is £6.99, published by DK

Animal Teams illustrated by Charlotte Milner

Animal Teams explains how animals work together to survive and thrive in the wild, and teaches children how important teamwork is, no matter how big or small a creature you are. This non-fiction book takes young readers through a range of habitats, from snowy mountains to colourful coral reefs, to discover different groups of animals and how they work together to survive in their environments. Children will learn fascinating facts along the way. For example, one of the facts that Minipreneur learned was that flying in flocks means birds can sleep as they fly.

Charlotte Milner’s stunning illustrations blend with photographs to create engaging animal scenes that children will love to pore over again and again, spotting something new every time. Combined with gentle learning and simple, lyrical text, Animal Teams the perfect reading and learning experience.

Animal Teams is unique in its ability to educate children about the animal kingdom whilst also teaching them about the importance of teamwork in their own lives too.

Affirmation: “Making noble choices opens the door to goodness in my life”

I am a firm believer in my ability to dictate what life throws out to me. When I make noble choices, goodness comes back to me in amazing amounts.

My professional mantra is to maintain honesty in all interactions. Avoiding embellishments to truths saves me from feeling guilty or burdened. Others deserve sincerity as much as I do.

It is unfair to mislead others for personal gain. When the truth is revealed, it leaves others upset and disappointed. I choose to project positivity and light in all my interactions. It is okay by me if doing this limits my worldly success.

Giving freely results in kindness and thoughtfulness coming my way. When I let go of the grip on my financial resources, I feel less controlled by it.

Choosing to share my money with others gives me a greater sense of fulfillment than spending it on myself. There is greater worth in improving the lives of those around me.

Complaining rarely turns my trying situations around. Instead, I choose to be grateful for what comes and make the most of it. It pays off when I least expect it.

Today, being honest, upstanding, and kind is my calling and I am proud of it. I am ready to make the decisions that my soul knows are right. My inner voice guides me to choices that result in positive outcomes each time.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. What are the benefits of being an honourable spouse and partner?
  2. How effective is nobility when it comes to pacifying a tense situation?
  3. What other positive traits of mine are amplified when I choose to live honourably?
